Letterboard – Privacy policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This policy covers the Letterboard Android app and the web version at letterboard.app. Letterboard does not collect, share or sell any personal data. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookies.
Data on your device
Messages, saved phrases, board layouts, colours, palettes and settings are stored only on your device: in the Android app's private storage, or in your browser's storage for the web version. They are never sent to us. They are deleted when you uninstall the app or clear this site's data in your browser.
Speech
- Android app: when you tap the speaker or test a voice, the text is passed to the text-to-speech engine installed on your device. That engine is a separate app with its own privacy policy and may use the internet, depending on how it is set up.
- Web version: speech uses the voices your browser provides. Voices on your device keep everything on the device. Online voices are off by default; if you turn them on, the message text is sent to your browser's voice provider (for example Google or Microsoft) to be spoken.
- Built-in voices (web): run inside your browser, so the message text never leaves your device. When you choose to download one, the voice file is fetched once from Hugging Face, which, like any website, receives your IP address for that download. No message content is sent.
Hosting
The web version is served by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the site. It may set a cookie that is strictly necessary for security. Letterboard sets no cookies of its own.
Crash reports
If you have allowed your Android device to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Android may send crash reports about the app to Google under Google's privacy policy. The app itself sends nothing.
Feedback
Feedback and language requests are sent only if you choose to, from your own email app. The pre-filled email contains the app version, interface language and your device or browser, which you can see and change before sending; it never contains your messages or phrases. We use your email only to reply.
Children
Letterboard collects no data from anyone, including children.
